Pupil Premium

Did you know ... just registering your child for the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) means that the school receives extra money to provide your child with extra individual support?

Please read the information below which gives details of our Pupil Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

What is the pupil premium?

Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children.

This is based on research showing that children from low income families perform less well at school than their peers. Often, children who are entitled to pupil premium face challenges such as poor language and communication skills, lack of confidence and issues with attendance and punctuality. The pupil premium is intended to directly benefit the children who are eligible, helping to narrow the gap between them and their classmates.

Main Barriers to Educational Achievement

Whilst we recognise that each child is unique, some of the main barriers to achievement that our pupil premium children face are:

  • Attendance.
  • Gaps in key knowledge and understanding from the National Curriculum.
  • Family support to complete homework.
  • Extra curricular experiences.

We aim to tackle these barriers by focusing resources, teaching, support and interventions to accelerate progress and to reduce the attainment gap between pupil premium and non-pupil premium children.

We will provide pupil premium children with a high quality learning environment to complete homework and after school learning activities, through clubs and residential visits.

We will use funding and resources to improve pupil premium attendance and punctuality.

Where appropriate we will provide mentoring and counselling to tackle social and emotional barriers to learning.

We will raise long term aspirations of pupil premium children by funding curricular projects and out of school visits.

Schools are given a pupil premium for:

  • For the 2026–2027 financial year, eligible primary-aged pupils attract £1,550 per pupil.
  • Additional funding of £2,690 is available for eligible pupils who are looked after or who have previously been looked after, while Service Pupil Premium is £360 per eligible pupil.

How is it spent?

Schools can choose how to spend their pupil premium money, as they are best placed to identify what would be of most benefit to the children who are eligible.

Register now to make sure they don’t miss out.

Review

The Pupil Premium Strategy is reviewed annually to ensure that it continues to reflect the needs of disadvantaged pupils and the priorities of the academy.

The impact of the strategy and the use of Pupil Premium funding are monitored throughout the academic year, with adjustments made where necessary to ensure that funding is used effectively to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

The strategy is formally reviewed and updated annually, taking into account the impact and outcomes from the previous academic year. An updated Pupil Premium Strategy Statement is published on the academy website by 31 December each year, in accordance with Department for Education requirements.

The performance and outcomes data for the previous academic year are reported within the Pupil Premium Strategy Statement.
